The Department of International Studies at the 窪蹋勛圖厙 is a vibrant, interdisciplinary program designed to prepare globally engaged students and professionals.
Housed in the School of Languages, Cultures, and World Affairs (LCWA), our program equips students to critically analyze the complex, interconnected challenges of the 21st century—ranging from global environmental issues to migration, armed conflict, global trade, diplomacy, and cross-cultural exchange.
As an International Studies major or minor, you will have the opportunity to examine the world through multiple lenses—political, economic, cultural, environmental—guided by expert faculty trained in fields, such as Political Science, Anthropology, Economics, Public Health, History, and more. You will build a dynamic toolkit of research, communication, and problem-solving skills essential to navigating and thriving in today’s interconnected world.

Why International Studies?
- Engage Interdisciplinary curriculum to explore globalization, diplomacy, development, and transnational issues from a diverse set of perspectives. We realize that no single field of study or discipline has all the answers. We can learn from many directions, via interdisciplinary thinking and experiences.
- Choose from Five concentration areas, including four regions (Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America & the Caribbean) and one thematic focus in Global Studies. Our curriculum is flexible and wide-ranging, allowing students to develop regional or topical expertise. It also offers an ideal double major – with Political Science, Foreign Languages, Public Health, History, etc. – depending on your interests.
- Gain key Foreign Language skills: complete three years of foreign language study, including the chance to study abroad.
- Learn from Immersive experiences through study abroad, internships, research, and engagement with faculty, who are committed to creating impactful learning opportunities inside the classroom, and around the world.

- Diplomacy, Nonprofit leadership, International Development, Business (international and local)
- Public Policy, Law, Journalism, Education
- Graduate study in diverse fields, such as international relations, law school, public health (including medical school), environmental and sustainability studies, in addition to a variety of PhD and Master's programs in the US and abroad.
