XX Removal Petition Process Overview
The following is a brief overview of the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø's XX Removal Petition Process after a student has been assigned an XX sanction and grade of F as a result of an Honor Code case. Please refer to the Student Handbook, including Loading..., for additional information and explanation. For all purposes of this information, "day" will be defined as "one official ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø workday" and shall exclude weekends and holidays.
- Student contacts the Office of the Dean of Students regarding the XX removal petition process. Student is referred to submission site to prepare petition.
- Student will fill out and submit a petition request form and a reflection statement via the submission site.
- Once the petition request form is received, the student will receive an update regarding their hearing process via the email they provided.
- The student will receive their hearing notice five days in advance of their scheduled hearing time.
- The student must submit any character witnesses or additional materials no later than two days in advance of their hearing.
- The student will receive the Honor Board's decision during the hearing upon completion of deliberations. The rationale and petition outcome will be sent to the student via email within two days of the conclusion of the hearing.
- If approved, the XX removal request will be submitted to the Office of the Registrar at the time of the rationale being shared (i.e., within two days of the conclusion of the hearing).
- If denied, the student must wait one full calendar year to submit a new XX removal petition.
XX Removal Petition Reflection Statement
In addition to the petition request form found on the submission site (linked below), the petitioning student must prepare and submit a reflection for the Honor Board to review. This reflection statement must be submitted and accepted before the petition process can move forward and a petition hearing can be scheduled. As a part of a petition, the student will need to write a couple of paragraphs on the following:
- Your reflections about your decision making regarding the honor code infraction with benefit of hindsight. Elaborate on what the infraction was, what responsibility you understand to have regarding the infraction, and how you have taken accountability.
- What you do now to prevent such decision-making. Elaborate on how you have made sure to uphold academic integrity since the infraction.
- Your future plans. Elaborate on how you will take what you have learned from this infraction with you into these plans.
