Exercise Science is a dynamic and versatile field that bridges foundational sciences with real-world application. As a student in the Department of Applied Exercise Science (AEXS), you'll study human anatomy and physiology, nutrition, psychology, statistics, fitness assessment and exercise prescription, research methods, and more.
You’ll gain valuable hands-on experience through lab-based coursework and professional internships. You’ll also have the opportunity to collaborate with faculty on independent research, participate in study abroad programs, and explore areas of personal interest through elective and special topics courses.

Why Major in Exercise Science?
Through a carefully crafted curriculum, Exercise Science students have access to many diverse experiential and individualized learning opportunities. Core courses are integrated with hands-on lab activities, helping students link theoretical concepts to clinical practice. Students will learn how to use equipment within multiple departmental lab spaces, that are designed to provide students with practical skills, apply course material, and serve as space for conducting research alongside faculty.

Experiential Learning in Exercise Science
Exercise Science students gain valuable hands-on experience that deepens their understanding and prepares them for careers in health, fitness, rehabilitation, and clinical settings. These real-world learning opportunities allow students to apply classroom concepts in professional and research environments.
Examples include:
Faculty-led research on topics such as tissue biomechanics, physical activity behaviors, motor learning, injury and illness risk and rehabilitation—where students can assist with ongoing studies, earn course credit, and present findings at academic conferences
Independent study projects tailored to individual interests and professional goals
Internships in clinical, athletic, and community wellness settings across the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø region
Study abroad programs exploring international perspectives on exercise science, health, and nutrition

Opportunities Beyond Graduation
Exercise Science majors work in a wide range of professional settings. These can include clinical environments such as hospitals, physicians’ offices, rehabilitation centers, and assisted living facilities. Graduates may also pursue roles in wellness program management, ergonomic and health screening, and the implementation of preventative or rehabilitative treatments. Many find fulfilling careers in fitness and performance-focused settings such as gyms, studios, community centers, schools, universities, and professional sports organizations.
