All enrollment deposits are non-refundable.
Early Decision: If you are admitted through Early Decision, you'll make a binding commitment to enroll at the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø by the deadline. Application materials for Early Decision candidates must be submitted on or before by the deadline. For more information, review the Early Decision FAQs.
Early Action: The Early Action deadline is non-binding and provides applicants with their admission decision prior to the regular decision date. To be considered, the application and supplementary materials must be submitted by the deadline.
Application & Requirements

First-Year Student
If you've completed secondary school and are applying to university for the first time, you are considered a first-year applicant.
As a first-year international applicant, you will apply for admission using the or Common App.
Application Requirements
In addition to your ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø application, you will need to provide the following documentation with your application.
1. Official Transcripts
Submit your complete high school transcripts directly to ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø in the original language with the school’s official stamp/seal.
2. Certified English Translation of Transcripts
If transcripts are written in a language other than English, certified, word-for-word English translations of all transcript pages must be submitted.
3. English Proficiency
Please submit one of the following exam scores directly to ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø.
- Duolingo English Test: minimum overall score of 105
- TOEFL iBT (code: 5113): minimum overall score of 80
- IELTS: minimum overall score of 6.5
- iTEP Academic Plus: minimum overall score of 3.8
- SAT (code: 5113) Reading and Writing section: minimum score of 500
- ACT (code: 3846) minimum Reading score of 18 and minimum English score of 20
You may qualify for an English proficiency waiver if English is your native language OR based on your academic performance in A-Level English, I/GCSE English, AP English Literature and Composition or AP English Language and Composition, or IB Diploma English Language and Literature A. Please email international@charleston.edu to determine if you qualify.
4. Copy of PassportA copy of your passport bio/photo page is required.

Transfer Student
If you completed secondary school and have previously studied at a college or university, you're considered a transfer applicant.
As an international transfer student, you will apply for admission using the and choose the "transfer" application option.
Application Requirements
In addition to your ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø application, you will need to provide the following items to complete your transfer application.
1. Official Transcripts
If you have 12 or more U.S. college/university credits:
- Official transcripts from all U.S. colleges/universities attended.
If you have 12 or more international college/university credits:
- Official college/university transcripts from all institutions attended.
- A course-by-course evaluation report of each of your transcripts must be submitted via one of our . Our preferred agencies are and . Note, it is the responsibility of the applicant to request this evaluation and provide it to the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø as part of the admissions process for transfer credit to be granted.
If you have less than 12 credits of college/university course work from the U.S. or abroad:
- Official high school transcripts from all schools attended in the original language with the school’s official stamp/seal.
- If high school transcripts are written in a language other than English, certified, word-for-word English translations of all high school transcript pages must be submitted.
- Official college/university transcripts from each institution attended.
- A course-by-course evaluation report of each of your transcripts must be submitted via one of our . Our preferred agencies are and . Note, it is the responsibility of the applicant to request this evaluation and provide it to the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø as part of the admissions process for transfer credit to be granted.
- Official final examination results from the examining boards are required, if taken.
2. English Proficiency

If English is your native language or if you have completed at least 24 credits of coursework at an accredited U.S. university, you may qualify for an English proficiency waiver. Please email international@cofc.edu to determine if you qualify.
3. Copy of Passport

Visiting Student
If you are an international student wishing to to study at the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø for one or two semesters, you can apply as a Visiting International Student.
The college admits two types of visiting students:- Students currently enrolled in college/university who plan to graduate from their home university, but who wish to study abroad in the United States.
- Students who have graduated from high school who wish to study in the United States before starting college/university in their home country.
As a visiting international student, you will apply for admission using the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø application. Choose the non-degree application, then select the visiting student application type.
Application Requirements
In addition to your ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø application, you will need to provide the following items to complete your application:
- Unofficial Transcripts
Submit a copy of your unofficial undergraduate transcript(s). Please include English translation if applicable. - English Proficiency
Please submit one of the following exam scores directly to ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø:

- Letter of Good Academic Standing
If you are currently enrolled in college/university, you must submit a letter indicating that you are in good academic standing. The letter should be written by a member of the International Student Services Office at your current college/university. Please complete the certificate of finances form and provide supporting bank statements.
